Forgotten Words

365 Days of Forgotten Words (Dae Lee) link

Continuing my daily study. I’m sharing one key takeaway each day to process these ideas and invite discussion. I'll also try to summarize each month's worth of material. This is definitely not meant as a replacement for the actual material, just me having a specific location as a reminder of the things I have learned and maybe I'll be able to update based on my own personal growth.

January

Absquatulate
/ab-SKWAT-chu-late/

The word's etymology is shrouded in the creativity of linguistic amalgamation, suggesting a blend of "abscond," "squat," and "perambulate."
Anfractuous
/an-FRAK-choo-us/

It often appears in literary texts to describe complex journeys or the convoluted corridors of the mind, enhancing narratives with a sense of intricate detail and unexpected turns.
Aeipathy
/ay-IP-uh-thee/

It represents a passion so enduring and deep-rooted that it becomes a part of one's essence.
Agelast
/AH-guh-last/

A person who never laughs; someone who is perceived as serious and rarely finds humor in anything.
Algedonic
/al-JEE-don-ik/

Relating to both pleasure and pain.
Thoughts on days 1-5
Etymology is fascinating, but the words that struck me were anfractuous and algedonic. Both are, at least to me, a look into the average mortal psyche. I have memories that cause both pleasure and pain, or at least they inspire each emotion. The corridors of the mind don't come with signposts or guides, so I'm often forced to just exist in them and hope I'm headed down a corridor worth traveling.
